THE MASTER OF ARTS IN ENGLISH, MASTER OF ARTS IN HISTORY, MASTER OF ARTS IN ENGLISH AND HISTORY

The MA in English and MA in History degrees require 11 courses (36.6 credits). At least six of the courses need to be in one academic subject area (English or history), although all 11 courses may be in one or the other discipline areas. The MA in English and History degree requires at least eight courses must be in English and history. As a capstone to any of the three degrees, each student undertakes research in their academic discipline or interdisciplinary concentration by completing either a two-term thesis supervised by an academic faculty member, or a one-term MA Project using action research. Beyond the courses in the discipline, each student may complete up to five courses (for the MA in English or History) or up to three courses in electives related to teaching, such as a higher education certificate in Mentoring, National Board Certification, a fifth and sixth grade extension, or electives such as Literacy, Assessment, or Special Needs Populations.

Normally the degree can be completed on a part-time basis over a 2-3 year time span for those students working full-time. The program can also be completed on a full-time basis in one calendar year.

If you are interested in pursuing an MA degree within the School of Education at Union Graduate College, please consult with an academic advisor to plan your program of study. An appointment can be arranged by contacting:
